The City’s motto is “Families Come First”. With a population just under 96,000, Livonia has successfully maintained its’ friendly hometown atmosphere while maintaining a strong emphasis on public safety and public services. Livonia ranks the 9th largest city in Michigan. The level of community involvement is second to none. Livonia ranks among some of the largest parent run organizations in the state including our Livonia Civic Arenas, parent-teacher-student association, Livonia Junior Athletic League, church organizations, over 60 neighborhood associations, civic organizations and some tens of thousands youth involved in recreational programs.  The Residents of Livonia take great pride and ownership in the beautiful parks, quality of life opportunities, education, community involvement, volunteerism, and small business support and will continue to do so for generations to come.

In addition to the state-of-the-art 130,000 sf Community Recreation Center featuring an indoor rock wall, giant water-tube slide, leisure pool with spray features, competitive lap pool, 4 gymnasiums, cardio and strength training equipment, indoor track, gymnastics center, short-term child care, meeting and party room space, fitness classes for all ages and much, much more, the city of Livonia is also filled with over 1300 acres of recreational open space in which there are 60 parks (36 developed and 24 undeveloped). The parks also offer play structures in 22 neighborhood parks, 6 miles of nature trails, picnic facilities, pavilions, three 18-hole golf courses, 32 tennis courts, 6 walking paths, 43 baseball diamonds, 25 soccer fields and an archery range. Livonia has the second most public parks and nature preserves among municipalities in Michigan! 


Schools

A superior education system produces a skilled workforce.  Livonia’s students benefit from two quality public school systems—Livonia Public Schools and the Clarenceville School District—as well as numerous parochial schools. The City is home to seven institutions of higher education, including the main campuses of Madonna University, Schoolcraft Community College and Davenport University. Livonia has a 93.2% high school graduate or higher average ages 25+ compared to the national average of 86%. In addition, a 35.4% bachelor degree or higher average of ages 25+ compared to the national average of 28.8%. Livonia also maintains three municipal libraries. Livonia was recognized by the FBI as the Second Safest City in Michigan (populations over 75,000). Over the years, Livonia has earned other accolades. It has been named as the Second Best Kid Friendly Place in the Nation by Population Connection; the Second Least Economic Stressful by the City American City Business Journals; and one of the top 50 Green Cities in the U.S. by Popular Science in 2008.
